Fell for that conditioning myth for way too long

Kept telling my clients to deep condition every single day. Thought it was the holy grail for damaged hair. My mentor finally showed me the porosity test at a workshop in Portland last spring. Over-moisturizing actually makes hair mushy and weak. Anyone else believe this for years before someone corrected you?

Used to tell people to slap on conditioner like there was no tomorrow. My hair got that gummy, stretchy feeling and I just thought it needed more moisture. A stylist friend finally made me do the strand test and it snapped right away. Realized I'd been making everything worse by drowning it in product. Swapped to a protein treatment once a week and light conditioner only, made a huge difference.

@wren638 basically described my entire hair journey except my stylist friend just laughed at me for a full minute before explaining the strand test. I was out here treating my hair like a sponge in a rainstorm thinking more moisture equals more health. Turns out I was basically marinating my hair in conditioner until it turned into sad, stringy pasta. That gummy feeling is the worst, makes you wonder if your hair is about to dissolve in the shower.

The gummy pasta thing is spot on @rowan_thomas84, I legit thought my hair was just thirsty until I finally did the porosity test and watched it stretch like a rubber band instead of snapping. Protein treatments were the real game changer once I realized I was just drowning already weak strands.
