Heads up about that viral 'cold water rinse' trick for color fading
A client came in with her red dye looking super washed out after just two weeks, and she swore she only used cold water like the videos said. I asked her to show me her shower setup, and she had one of those rainfall heads that pours directly onto the crown. Anyone else run into this with specific shower types?

Yeah, the water temperature is only half the battle. That direct blast from a rainfall head is like pressure washing your color out, cold or not. The force of the water matters just as much as the temp. She'd be better off filling a cup from the tap and pouring it over her head to rinse.

Right, the "pressure washing your color out" thing is so true, piper779. I read somewhere that even a gentle shower setting can strip dye faster than a cool soak.

The rainfall head is honestly the worst invention for dyed hair. My roommate has one and she has to wash her pink hair like twice a week max. She legit holds her hand over her head when she rinses conditioner to break the water force. I use an old school round shower head that just dribbles out and my purple stayed vibrant for like 3 months straight. The kitchen sink method sounds crazy but honestly it might save her a ton of money in the long run.

My shower head is basically a color remover at this point. I tried the cool water thing for my red dye and it still washed down the drain looking like a crime scene. Maybe I should just start rinsing my hair in the kitchen sink with a measuring cup. At least then I could see exactly how much money is going down the drain each time.
