Hot take: My instructor told me my balayage blending was too tight, I thought she was nuts at first

I got told last week at a training session in Portland that I was wrapping my foils too close together for a lived-in look. I argued with her for like 10 minutes because I thought tighter meant more blend. She made me do a section with 2 inches of space between foils, and I swear the result looked way more natural and softer. Anyone else get feedback that went completely against what you thought was right?

Totally same thing happened to me with my mentor last spring.

Wait, what? Your mentor let you drive that old Ford F-150 with the rusty brake lines to the job site? Man, I thought my mentor was bad when he handed me the keys to his old Subaru with the duct taped window, but that is straight up dangerous. I couldn't believe he didn't tell you the brakes were half gone before you hit that hill.

Hang on, are you saying the brake lines were rusty or that the brakes were half gone? I think you mixed up my story a little. My mentor actually told me the brakes were fine, but it turned out the master cylinder was leaking, not the lines. That's a whole different kind of scary. The real issue was he let me take it down that steep hill without mentioning the brake fluid was low. So yeah, it was still dangerous, but it wasn't a rusty brake line situation like you're thinking.
