I was sectioning hair for a balayage in my Denver salon and a client pointed out my part lines were crooked.

I realized I'd been relying on my dominant eye for years, which was throwing off my symmetry, so has anyone else found a good trick for checking your sectioning work from a different angle?

A quick trick is to step back and look at the head as a whole shape, not just the lines. Sometimes closing one eye helps reset your focus too.

Yeah, that trick works until you step back and realize the whole shape looks like a potato. I've closed one eye so many times trying to see it right that I've given myself a headache and a new appreciation for abstract art. At this point my drawings are less portraits and more a collection of interesting mistakes.
