My salon manager said to use a different toner on my client and it was a disaster

She told me to swap out my usual Wella for some cheap brand she had in the back, said it would save money and work the same. Three minutes later my client's hair turned this weird greenish brass color and I had to do a color correction on the spot. Has anyone else had a boss give bad product advice that backfired bad?

Forty bucks on the wrong toner cost you a whole color correction plus the client's trust. It's like the time I bought discount windshield wipers that left streaks in the rain. Sometimes saving a few dollars upfront just makes you spend more time and money fixing the mess later.

Nah, cheap toner never works like the good stuff.

You said "cheap toner never works like the good stuff" and that's pretty much what I've heard from everyone who's tried it. I read a breakdown somewhere that said the cheap stuff has worse binding agents so it doesn't stick to the paper as well, plus it can gum up the drum over time. My buddy at a print shop told me he tried a no-name brand once and his machine started throwing error codes after a couple reams. It's not worth the headache to save maybe twenty bucks.
