Read a blog post about mixing Developer by weight instead of volume and it blew my mind for $8 worth of chemicals
I always just eyeballed my 20 and 30 volume mixes. Then I saw this cosmetology blog breaking down how density differences between the two can throw off your ratio by like 15%. Tried it with a cheap kitchen scale last Tuesday for a root touch up on a regular. The lift was way more even than usual. Has anyone else switched to measuring that way?

Wait but did you zero out the scale with the bottle or the mixing bowl on it first? Because I tried this once and forgot to tare it and ended up way off. The even lift part is interesting though, was it more like the roots didn't get that hot spot near the scalp? I always get that when I eyeball it.

Taring the mixing bowl first is what saved me, @wadew51 taught me that trick and it fixed my orange root problem completely. The even lift is real though, way less hot scalp action when you measure it out.

Wait, you didn't tare the scale with the bottle on it first...? Oh man, that would throw everything off so bad. I have a little kitchen scale I use for mixing and I always forget to zero it out with the bottle before I pour in the developer. Last time I did that, I ended up with a 1:2 ratio instead of 1:1 and my roots came out almost orange. But yeah, about the even lift thing, I noticed it makes the color go on way more uniform near the scalp because you're not guessing how much to use. I'm honestly shook you tried it without taring it first though, that's a rookie mistake I make all the time too.
