The way people over-tone purple shampoo on blonde clients is driving me crazy
Had a lady come in last week who turned her roots lavender because she left the Purple Rain on for 12 minutes instead of the 3 on the bottle, and now I have to explain to her that no, purple cancels yellow, it doesn't turn white hair purple-blue if you use it like a toner.

Right but most purple shampoos say 3-5 minutes max, and people still treat it like a deep conditioner. I had one client who left it on for twenty once and her hair looked like Grimace from the 90s.

Watch people do this with everything though, not just hair. People think if a little is good then a lot must be better, or if 3 minutes works then 10 will work even harder. I see it with skincare too, leaving face masks on til they crack because the instructions say 15 minutes but people double it for extra moisture. It's like nobody trusts the people who literally made the product.

Oh man, can you imagine trying to explain that to someone who thinks they're doing the right thing? It's rough because you know they spent money on the product and thought they were being thorough, but now you're the bad guy for telling them they messed up. I feel for you, seriously. That purple stain is no joke, and once it sets in like that it takes some serious work to lift back out. I've seen so many blondes walk around with that weird bruised look and it breaks my heart every time.
