Vent: dropping $450 on that fancy salon chair was a complete waste

Bought a top-end hydraulic chair six months back because I thought it'd save my back, but the pump died after two months and the replacement parts cost more than a mid-range chair - anyone else get burned by overpriced equipment?

Man, I gotta push back on this one. That chair probably was worth the money, you just got unlucky with a lemon... happens with any product. If you'd bought the cheap chair your back would be killing you by now plus you'd be replacing the whole thing instead of just a part. Good chairs last years if you maintain them, and $450 isn't even that much for something you sit in for eight hours a day. Seems like you're blaming the whole category for one bad experience.

@miles_hall Fair point, but how many hours did you personally spend researching that chair before buying? Sometimes what looks like bad luck is just not knowing the right questions to ask ahead of time. Worth considering before writing off the whole category.

People get way too worked up over a chair. It's a place to sit, not a life decision. Spending hours researching a chair before buying sounds like overkill to me. Sometimes you just need a decent seat and moving on is fine. If it breaks, get another one. Not everything needs to be a whole analysis.
