Wax vs. hard gel for natural nail overlays and I am never going back
I used to keep a wax pot going for every natural nail overlay because that was how I learned in school in 2019, and my clients loved the smell and the warm feel. Last March I switched to a hard gel overlay on a client with paper thin nails who bites, and her nails lasted 4 weeks with zero lifting while the wax set lasted maybe 9 days before chipping at the free edge. The gel costs more up front and the prep is picky about dehydration, but I am doing way fewer fills and my clients in Nashville are not canceling because a nail popped off. If you are still on wax for overlays, what is keeping you there, the price or the removal time?
My friend ran a wax pot for years and swore by it until she did a gel overlay on a biter and that set outlasted everything else in her chair. The removal time is what scared her at first, but once she got the soak off down it was not a big deal.
