Why does nobody talk about the absolute chaos of doing hair at a wedding?

Last month I did hair for my cousin's wedding at a barn venue outside Nashville and it was a nightmare. The bride changed her mind about the updo three times in 30 minutes while the mother of the groom kept trying to hand me bobby pins soaked in hairspray. I finally had to pull her aside and say "ma'am these are dripping wet, they're just gonna slide right out." Has anyone else had a wedding gig where the family completely took over your station?

That line about the mother of the groom and the dripping bobby pins hit close to home. I read a wedding planner's blog once where she said family members at barn venues treat the getting ready area like a free-for-all craft project. It's wild how people think they're helping when they're really just making a sticky mess out of your supplies.

My cousin's wedding had three aunties trying to "fix" the bridesmaids' hair with sticky spray and bobby pins they pulled out of their own bags. Fifteen minutes before the ceremony we had to wipe half the stuff off because it looked like they'd raided a dollar store craft bin. Honestly, some people just can't stand to see a table full of neat supplies without messing with it.

My buddy's sister had her wedding last summer and his aunt, who's a retired hairdresser, showed up with a curling iron and a bottle of hairspray she'd brought from home. She started re-curling the bride's maid of honor's hair while the girl was trying to eat a bagel. Ended up burning a small patch of her scalp and the bride had to practically wrestle the curling iron away from her before the photos started. The aunt kept saying "I'm just trying to help" but it was more like she couldn't stand seeing someone else in charge.
