Blew $200 on a fancy remote control and it died in a week

I bought a wireless remote for my crawler crane thinking it would be a game changer. Spent $200 on it and the thing stopped working after 7 days of light use. Anyone else had bad luck with aftermarket controls?

That part about gluing a tracker in there before you even pair it with the crane got me thinking. I never really worried about theft with these things, but it makes total sense that a plain looking remote with no serial numbers would be an easy snatch. I might actually try that epoxy trick if I grab another one of these.

My buddy runs a small crane crew and he hid a Tile tracker inside his remote casing after his second one got swiped off a job site. Cost him like 30 bucks and an hour of messing with epoxy, but he's had the same remote for three years now. The real problem with these aftermarket units isn't the electronics half the time, it's that they're easy targets for theft because they look pricey and there's no serial numbers on the box. If you can get your money back or the seller sends a replacement, I'd seriously consider gluing a tracker in there before you even pair it with the crane. Saves you from blowing another 200 bucks down the road.

Three years without losing another remote? That's wild honestly. I keep my tools locked in a cabinet at my shop and I still manage to misplace my clippers for a few hours every week. Tile trackers are smart though, I use one for my keys and it's saved me more times than I can count. Your buddy's setup sounds like a solid investment for sure.
