Boom sheared a bolt on a 50 ton Grove last Tuesday - hydraulic line snapped right after. Did you fix it in the field or call the dealer?

Oh absolutely, @piper779, it was one of those things where every fix just uncovered another problem behind it. Spent a whole weekend sorting out a wiring mess that someone had patched together with duct tape and hope. At least the headache was temporary and the lesson was permanent, I guess.

Why would you even bother calling the dealer for something like that? Sure, a snapped bolt on a 50 ton Grove sounds bad, but half the time their markup is criminal and youll wait three weeks for a part that you could just source from a local fastener shop. Ive fixed way worse on a 35 ton Link-Belt in the middle of a muddy field with a torch and a ratchet strap, and it held for another two years before we sold it. Dealers are overpriced and slow - if you know your machine, just weld a temporary plate over the bracket and keep running till payday.
