Heard a crew talking about ignoring load chart notes for 'just a quick lift' last week

My buddy Jake was on a site where they ignored the note about wind. A 30 mph gust caught a panel they were lifting with a 50 ton crane and it was swinging like crazy. They got it down safe but he said it was the longest minute of his life.

Oh man, that's wild. @lisa531 your friend got real lucky. Makes me think of this time I saw a crew try to set a truss on a calm morning but the forecast said gusts later. They gambled and by noon that thing was doing the twist up there. Took them almost an hour to wrestle it down with tag lines.

Honestly used to think those notes were just lawyer talk, you know? My old foreman would say it's fine if you know the machine. Then we watched a brand new 80-tonner get real tippy on what looked like a simple pick. The outrigger pad sank maybe two inches into soft ground the note specifically warned about. Changed my whole view on the fine print right there.
