Just learned a scary fact about crane swing radius clearance

I was reading through the OSHA reports from last quarter and found out 40% of crane accidents happen because the counterweight hit something (a truck, a wall, or even a person) during a swing. That stat totally caught me off guard since I always focus on the boom and load, not the back end. How do you guys handle tight spots where the swing radius is barely enough?

Set up a spotter just to watch the back end" yeah right like that guy isn't gonna be staring at his phone the whole time lol. Honestly at that point just tape a screaming parrot back there, it'd be more effective. At least you'd hear something when you're about to turn a dumpster into a pancake.

Bet on the parrot being more reliable (and definitely louder). Probably cheaper than a second phone plan too.

Yeah that stat is wild lol, I always set up a spotter just to watch the back end now.
