Just saw a picture of the crane that built the Sears Tower

I was looking at an old construction book from the library and it said that thing could lift 30 tons but only had a 150 foot boom. They built the whole tower with basically two of them, climbing up as they went. We have way more power and reach now, but it made me think about the skill it took back then. Anyone here ever run one of those old climber cranes?

That "climbing up as they went" part is wild, total respect for those operators.

Wish I had half that nerve. I get winded just climbing the stairs.

I gotta push back a little, stairs are just practice for the real climbs.

Reminds me of watching linemen work on the poles near my old house. They made it look so easy, just walking up those spikes like a ladder. Really gives you a new respect for the skill.
