My old foreman in Tampa always said to never use a 3-part block on a 60-ton lift.

Honestly, I thought he was just being extra careful, but we had a job last month where a guy tried it on a 60-ton concrete panel. The block twisted under load and nearly dropped the piece. Ngl, seeing that happen made me a believer. Anyone else run into a hard rule from an old-timer that saved your bacon?

Man, my old boss had the same rule about never cutting into a live electrical panel.

Actually @seth_shah, sometimes you gotta work on live panels, but the rules for doing it safe are super strict.

Yeah, that tracks. I read a whole article once about how the angle of the load line changes the force on each sheave, and on a 60-ton lift with a three-part, you can get some really uneven pull if it's not perfectly set up. That twist you saw is exactly what they were talking about.
