Saw some OSHA stats that made me question our safety meetings
I found out that over 70% of crane accidents happen during setup and disassembly, not actual lifts. That came from a 2023 Bureau of Labor report I read last night. Has anyone else noticed our pre-shift briefs focus almost entirely on the lift itself?

We switched our briefs to cover rigging and setup way more after a close call.

We had a similar wakeup call a few years back. Now every brief gets a full page on rigging and setup, step by step, with photos of the right way and the wrong way. Your mileage may vary, but we also started doing a quick pre-show walkthrough with the crew to point out any hazards. It adds maybe 15 minutes to load-in but saves a ton of headache down the line. Our stage manager now refuses to let anyone touch a winch or a truss without physically checking the brief first. Small change, huge difference in how smooth things run.

Karenh56 that pre-show walkthrough is gold. Reminds me of a gig where we skipped it and ended up with a ladder in the wrong spot under a truss that needed to come down fast. Fifteen minutes of checking beats a hospital visit any day.
