Snapped a load line last Tuesday on a job in Newark
Was lifting a 4 ton HVAC unit and the cable let go at the swivel fitting, no warning at all. Had anyone else had issues with those factory crimped ends on 7/8 wire rope?

Overreacting a bit. Factory crimps on 7/8 wire rope are rated for way more than 4 tons if they were installed right. I've seen guys yank way heavier loads with those same fittings on wrecking balls and they hold fine. Nine times out of ten it's either a nick in the cable from rubbing on something or someone didn't dress the swivel properly before crimping. Philly connection doesn't scare me either, that's OSHA territory and they're crawling all over those jobs.

That "no warning at all" part scares me, a buddy had the same thing happen on a job in Philly.

Jesus, that's scary. Factory crimps are supposed to be the safe bet but I've seen way too many things fail at the connection point lately. It's like how my phone charger cable always breaks right where the wire meets the plug, not in the middle. Seems like nothing is built to handle real stress anymore, they just calculate for perfect conditions in a lab.
