The safety guy who made me recheck my rigging after 8 years on the job

Last month in Houston, a new site safety rep stopped me before my first pick. He asked why my choker hitch was set with the eye facing down instead of up. I told him that's how my mentor taught me back in 2013, and nobody ever complained. He showed me the manufacturer's chart on his phone, plain as day, where the rating drops 15% in that orientation. I was embarrassed, but I redid the hitch and checked every load that week. Now I wonder how many of us are running with old habits from guys who learned from other guys. Has anyone else had a younger or less experienced person point out something that changed your whole setup?
