TIL the load chart says something different than my gut

Been running a 130 ton for 8 years and always trusted my feel on pick distances. Last month a 28,000 lb heat exchanger had me nervous at 60 feet, so I cracked open the actual load chart for the first time in forever. Turns out the margin at that radius is nearly 40% higher than I guessed. I checked three more lifts after that and my instinct was off every single time, not by a little either. Am I the only one who skips the chart until things get sketchy, or do other operators actually read it daily?

Ngl, I thought I was the only one who did this. I've been on a 100 ton for like six years and I still catch myself eyeballing the radius and going "yeah that's fine" until the load feels heavy. Then I check the chart and it's always way different than my mental math. Last month I had a 40 foot pole at like 55 feet out and I told the foreman no problem, then I actually looked and realized I had maybe 5% margin left. Scared the hell out of me. Now I'm trying to make it a habit to glance at the chart at least once per job, but honestly my gut still tries to override it every time.
