Took me 2 hours to figure out my outrigger float was sinking on soft ground at a site in Bakersfield
Last Tuesday I was setting up a 60 ton rig on what looked like solid dirt near a new warehouse job in Bakersfield, and the pads kept sinking about 4 inches every time I loaded the boom. I messed with the leveling jacks, checked the bubble, even swapped out one float, and it still felt off. Turns out the ground had been backfilled over an old utility trench and a guy on site pointed it out after I'd been fighting it for 2 hours straight. Anyone else run into hidden soft spots like that, and do you guys probe the ground first or just trust the site plan?
