Warning: a calm forecast in Seattle turned into a 40 mph gust day
We had a big glass panel lift scheduled and the wind kicked up out of nowhere. Had to hold the load for almost an hour waiting for a window, which threw the whole site schedule off. Anyone else get caught by a sudden wind shift that the weather report missed completely?

Honestly, that sounds like a nightmare with the glass panel. Tbh, what's the backup plan for a hold like that? Do you just eat the cost for the crew's time, or does the schedule just get wrecked for the whole week? Seems like a huge domino effect.

That "calm forecast" line hits home. I once tried to put up a new backyard fence on a supposedly mild day, and a gust came out of nowhere and sent a whole section of it flat into my neighbor's flower bed. Weather apps just seem to guess sometimes, don't they?

Nah, I gotta disagree. The forecasts are usually pretty solid for general planning. That sudden wind in Seattle? Classic Puget Sound convergence zone stuff, it pops up fast. I check the NWS hourly discussion, not just the app summary. They flagged potential gusts yesterday afternoon. For something as risky as a glass lift, I'd have a backup window ready.
