Watching a new guy run a knuckle boom showed me I was swinging loads way too fast this whole time

I always figured getting the load to the spot fast was the goal. Then last week I watched this kid take it real slow and smooth, barely any bounce. My foreman said I was putting extra wear on the cable and the truck. He was right. I checked my logs and I had three cable replacements in two years. This kid has never had one. How long do you guys usually go between cable swaps?

Three cable replacements in two years" is wild, maybe look at your brakes too.

Three cable replacements in two years" is honestly a LOT. @elliott137 I actually read somewhere that rough brake habits can really trash your shifter cables faster than normal. Maybe try easing off the brakes a bit and see if it helps?

Oh man, I vaguely remember reading something similar about how dragging your brakes can actually mess with cable tension over time... maybe try being gentler on the levers and see if it stretches out the life a bit.
