Appreciation post for the designer who finally explained grid systems in a way that clicked

I was struggling with layout work for a client project about 2 months ago, and I kept getting feedback that things felt "off" but nobody could tell me why. A senior designer on the creative pros network shared a simple breakdown of how to use modular grids instead of just column grids, and it completely fixed my spacing issues. She used a specific example from a brochure she did for a nonprofit in Portland, and that real world case made it so clear. I've been applying that same approach to web layouts and print pieces ever since, and my work looks way more polished now. Has anyone else found that certain design principles only make sense when someone shows you a bad example and a good example side by side?
