Appreciation post: that client file that corrupted 2 hours before deadline

I was prepping a final deliverable for a local bakery client and the file just stopped opening. It was a Tuesday at 4pm, deadline at 6pm. I had to rebuild the layout from a PDF export and an old backup, lost about 90 minutes but caught it. Turns out the autosave folder had a version from 3 hours prior that only missed the last tweaks. It made me realize I need a better backup system than just trusting one cloud folder. Has anyone else had a near-miss like this and switched to versioning tools?

Honestly, backups just make you lazy about saving properly.

Ha! Hard disagree there. I just read a thing about how even the most careful people lose files to stuff like corrupted drives or accidental deletes, it happens to everyone. Saving "properly" means doing it every single time, and life gets busy, backups are the safety net for that. Plus, having a backup lets you actually experiment and try new things without the panic of ruining your only copy. It's not laziness, it's just being smart about your time and peace of mind.
