Blew $400 on a fancy portfolio website builder that looked great but got zero client inquiries in 3 months
I signed up for that popular drag-and-drop site builder back in February because all the other designers in my coworking space kept raving about it. Turns out my custom WordPress site from 2021 was actually ranking way better on Google and the new one was just pretty with no traffic. Has anyone else fallen for a tool that looked pro but killed your search visibility?

but honestly, have you checked your site's load speed on mobile? I ran into this exact same mess and it turned out the fancy builder was loading like 3 extra scripts for animations nobody even asked for. Google's newest update REALLY punishes slow sites, and that might be why your portfolio disappeared from searches completely.

Ugh I feel your pain so much. I got burned by a fancy template that looked amazing on desktop but loaded like a potato on phones and just vanished from search results. It's so frustrating when you pay all that money and the thing actually hurts your business instead of helping.

Wait @emmaclark brought up a good point about those extra scripts - did you check if your template was loading stuff like heavy animation libraries or lots of custom fonts? What was the biggest culprit slowing things down for your site?
