Client asked for the 'viral aesthetic' and then rejected my reference board
Had a call with a new client in Austin last week, they wanted branding with a 'viral aesthetic'. I pulled up 12 reference images from TikTok, mostly bold typography and neon gradients. Client said those were too 'Instagram 2018' and asked for something more 'authentic'. I checked their own page and turns out they've posted 3 times in 2 years, all blurry phone pics. So now I'm revising the whole pitch, anyone else deal with clients who hate their own vibe?

Friend of mine had the same thing with a bakery client. They wanted a "clean modern look" but their whole Pinterest was covered in pastel florals and rustic wood. Client straight up said their own page was "too old school" but couldn't say what they actually wanted. Some people just hate everything until you show them something they've already seen on someone else's page.
