DAE notice portfolio sites keep missing the one page clients actually check?
I was reviewing submissions for a freelance gig last week, about 40 portfolios total, and almost every one had a beautiful homepage but no case study page with results. The client, a small shop owner in Portland, told me straight up, 'I just want to see if you solved a problem like mine before.' They spent maybe 2 minutes per site, mostly scrolling for numbers and before/after shots. I used to do the same thing, tons of pretty images, zero proof of work. Now I put a simple 'outcomes' section on my own site, just 3 projects with the exact issue and the metric that moved. It got me two calls this month alone from people who said that page sealed it. Does anyone else structure their portfolio around a specific problem type instead of a general gallery?

The "outcomes" section is smart, but the real fix is that most people look for proof, not polish. You mentioned the small shop owner wanted before and after shots, so the case study page is doing the heavy lifting there. One thing though, most clients do check the homepage first, they just don't stay long. So the homepage should tease that outcome info, not just show pretty images. I keep mine focused on one service area now, like a niche, and it filters out the wrong leads way faster than a general gallery ever did.

Honestly, how much has narrowing to that one niche cut down on wasted calls?
