I charged less for a logo project and got a worse client, so I raised rates 40% and landed a retainer in Austin
Last spring I dropped my logo rate to $600 for a small bakery because I felt bad quoting my normal price of $1,000. The owner dragged the project out for 9 weeks, sent 14 rounds of revisions, and asked me to throw in free social posts at the end. After that mess I raised my base rate to $1,400 and figured I would lose most of my leads. Instead I booked 5 projects in 6 weeks, and 3 of those clients barely changed a thing on the first draft. The whole thing flipped my thinking on pricing, because the lower number was pulling in folks who did not value the work or my time. I still do a smaller rate for friends and local shops I actually care about, but that is a choice, not a default. Has anyone else seen cheap pricing bring in the worst clients, or did it work out fine for you?
Sounds like the $600 was basically a coupon for people who wanted to run you ragged... 14 rounds over a logo, that owner knew exactly what they were doing. Funny how charging more made people suddenly trust your ideas and stop fiddling with everything.
