My video editing software crashed during a big client export

It happened yesterday afternoon, right as I was about to send the final cut for a local restaurant's commercial. I was using my usual program, and the progress bar froze at 98%. The whole thing just locked up. I had to force quit and lost about an hour of render time. I panicked for a minute because the deadline was tight. I ended up clearing the cache, restarting my computer, and trying the export again in smaller segments. It worked the second time, but it pushed me right up against the wire. Has anyone else had a major software fail right at the finish line? What's your go-to fix when an export just dies?

That 98% freeze is the worst. Happens every time I'm in a rush too. Software bugs feel like life's way of testing your patience. Right when you think you're done, something breaks. Smaller export segments saved me before. Also started keeping auto-save on max frequency. The panic is real. But it's weird how that pressure makes you think clearer.

Wait, @robin628, did you actually notice your thinking getting clearer under pressure, or is that just a way to cope with the frustration? I always feel like I'm about to make a worse decision when I'm panicking. Like last week, I had a huge export freeze at 97% and I kept clicking random buttons hoping something would work. Ended up corrupting the whole file. Do you really think the pressure helps you focus, or is it more of a survival instinct kicking in?

Did you force quit or give it time to process first?
