Serious question, does your portfolio site actually matter anymore or is it all just LinkedIn and Instagram now?

Overheard a senior creative director at a conference in Portland say he hasn't looked at a personal website in two years because he just scrolls the client's tagged posts, and it made me wonder if we are all wasting time on design that nobody clicks through to anyway.

Is it that time of the month where we all collectively panic about our portfolios again? Because yeah, I think we are basically just a highlight reel on LinkedIn now, but my Squarespace subscription is way too expensive to cancel just yet. I'm pretty sure the only people clicking through to my site are bots from design blogs.

Wait, do you actually get any real work from your site or is it more of a digital trophy case at this point? Because I've been wondering if I'm just paying Squarespace to host a glorified resume that nobody's really looking at... but then I feel guilty whenever I think about letting the domain expire. It's like this weird obligation we all signed up for.

Honestly, I feel this so hard. I've got a site I update maybe twice a year now and I'm pretty sure the only views I get are from me checking it on my phone. It's like this weird digital anchor we're all just paying for out of guilt.
