Switched to a 25 dollar mic stand after fighting a busted one for 6 months

I kept using this wobbly mic stand from a garage sale... it fell over during a client recording last Tuesday and I almost lost the audio. Finally grabbed a cheap K&M stand from a shop in Austin and it's night and day different. The thing just stays put, no tape needed. Has anyone else dealt with gear failing at the worst possible moment?

Oh man, that's the worst. It's funny how we'll put up with something janky for way too long just because it's "good enough" until it finally bites us. I feel like that happens with everything, not just gear - you deal with a sticky drawer for months and then five minutes with a screwdriver fixes it completely.

Honestly, that "good enough" trap is real. I think we convince ourselves that dealing with something annoying builds character or saves money, but really it just wastes time and brain space in the long run. Like, I had a lamp that flickered for a year and I just lived with it because screwing in the bulb tighter felt like a hassle. Finally replaced the whole socket for like three bucks and now my room actually has light without the strobe effect. It's wild how we'll accept a tiny daily inconvenience until it snowballs into a huge hassle, when the fix was probably one trip to the hardware store away.

Friend of mine had a lawnmower that would die halfway through the yard for like two summers. Finally broke down and replaced the spark plug, took ten minutes, and now it runs perfect. Uma_williams is right, that flickering lamp story hits close to home, we all just accept the annoyance until we can't anymore.
