The client who quoted my own contract back at me and won
Had a gig in Austin last spring where the client kept pushing for extra revisions past the agreed 3. Finally I pointed out the contract language, and she pulled up my own email from six months earlier where I'd written 'revisions are flexible.' I stood there in the coffeeshop on 6th Street holding my laptop, realizing I'd trained her to ignore my boundaries. How do you all handle clients who dig up your old friendly emails and use them against you?

...so really you just gave her a written invitation to treat your contract like a suggestion menu. I mean, 'revisions are flexible' might as well have been 'come heckle me forever.' Classic move though, you basically wrote your own pink slip and then acted shocked when she cashed it. Honestly the real lesson here is never put anything nice in writing while you're still feeling friendly. Next time just say 'sure, we can talk about it' in person and then let phone tag do the dirty work. She outplayed you with your own words, so at least you know she reads. That's more than most clients do, so maybe take the small win there.
