The "just use more client references" advice that backfired hard

My old mentor from Chicago told me to load up every pitch deck with 15 client logos, said it made us look established. I tried that on a big retail account last month and they called me out for padding the list with tiny projects. Turns out 3 solid case studies with actual numbers did more than 15 logos ever could. Anyone else get burned by generic agency wisdom like that?

Whoa, that's a classic one. I read somewhere that buyers actually get suspicious when there's too many logos, makes em think you're just stamp collecting.
