TIL that drenching a lawn in water right before a heatwave is a terrible idea

My neighbor Gary told me to water heavy before a 100 degree day. Said it would "cool the roots." Two days later half my grass was yellow. Called a guy at the supply shop and he laughed. Said Gary probably thinks marigolds are perennials. Whoops.

Did Gary tell you where he learned that from, like a specific website or YouTube channel? Curious if there's a whole community out there giving bad lawn advice.
