Unpopular opinion: That 'networking event' at the Creative Pros mixer was a waste

I went to the downtown LA Creative Pros mixer last Thursday expecting real conversations, but one guy just handed me his card without saying a word. He walked away before I could even ask what he did. Does anyone else think these events are just business card dumps instead of actual networking?

Sometimes a quick card drop is just their awkward way of saying they're interested but didn't know what else to do.

Three months ago I would've said nah they're just being lazy or rude, but after watching my brother do exactly this to a girl he was too nervous to talk to I see it totally different now.
