I'm not even mad about the rejection, I'm mad that their slush pile moves faster than my whole writing group combined. How do you all deal with prompt fatigue when it feels like you're throwing words into a void that reads 2,000 of them a month?
Used to figure fast rejections meant they didn't even read it, and honestly that made me want to quit sending stuff out. Then I had one story get a no in about 8 hours with a line about how the ending felt rushed, and that note was dead right. The editor clearly read the whole thing, they just had a system for getting through the pile. 2,000 subs a month means they can't sit with yours for two weeks, so they make the call quick. Beats waiting 6 months for a form letter.
