I finally saw the before and after in my character descriptions
I rewrote a scene from a short story I wrote 3 years ago and the difference was night and day - my old version just listed hair color and clothes, but the new one used sensory details like how the character smelled of coffee and moved with a limp. What was the biggest change you noticed in your own writing after you got more practice?

Whoa, wait, you really had a character who smelled like coffee? That's such a cool detail, I never even thought to use smell like that.

Had my buddy Ryan write a character who always smelled like fresh basil, said it made people trust him in scenes. Weirdest thing but his readers totally picked up on it and loved it.

Ngl, scent is like a secret shortcut to making a character feel real.
