PSA: A flat tire on I-95 taught me to always check my spare

I was stuck on the shoulder near Richmond with a shredded tire at 9pm, and when I popped the trunk my spare was flat too, so I had to call a tow truck and wait two hours, and now I check my spare every oil change, has anyone else been caught off guard like that?

Man, I get that it sucks but checking your spare every oil change feels like overkill. Most people don't even think about it until they need it and it's fine. You just got super unlucky.

My spare was also flat but I didn't realize it until I was already crying on the side of the road.
