Sat in a coffee shop in Portland and counted how many people typed their stories on actual paper notebooks

Out of 23 people writing in that corner over two hours, 18 were using notebooks instead of laptops or phones, which made me wonder if the writing community is secretly more analog than we admit.

Were they writing stuff like first drafts or was it more journaling and notes? Always curious if the notebook crowd is working on something they plan to finish or just brain dumping. Feels like there's a big difference between someone scribbling out a novel plot and someone just venting about their day.

Buddy of mine filled a whole notebook just ranking gas station snacks by how well they survived a hot car.

Opened up my notebook from 2017 the other day and it was just three pages of me trying to figure out how to describe the smell of rain before giving up and drawing a very angry looking cloud. Half of my old notebooks are just me ranting about why pens stop working right when you need them. Your mileage may vary but for me it's mostly brain dumping with occasional attempts at something more coherent thrown in.
