The library archive on 3rd Street flipped my whole writing process

I stopped by the old public library on 3rd Street last Tuesday because I had 20 minutes to kill before a meeting. I figured I'd just browse the fiction section like always, but I wandered into the local history room by accident. There were these handwritten diaries from the 1930s, just sitting in glass cases, and one entry described a dust storm so thick the writer couldn't see his own hand. That got me thinking about how much texture I've been missing in my own prompts. I usually write sci-fi or fantasy, heavy on world building, but this real voice felt more alive than anything I've drafted in months. Now I'm trying to write a prompt where the setting is based on a single true letter or diary entry, no invented lore allowed. Has anyone else pulled source material from a local archive and seen their writing get sharper for it?
