Walked into a used bookstore in Portland and noticed every writing prompt book was from the 90s

The section had like 20 copies of this one Robin Behn poetry prompt book from 1994 and nothing newer, which got me wondering if the whole prompt community online has just replaced what those books used to do, anyone else notice how old physical prompt resources are getting dusty?

Ngl finding that Robin Behn book brought back memories, it was the only poetry prompt book I used to actually finish.

I started with her book thinking it was just another writing gimmick, but the way she frames prompts actually got me writing stuff I didn't hate. Before that I'd always thought prompt books were too rigid or basic, but hers felt more like starting points than rules. It's weird how one book can totally flip your view on a whole genre.
