Am I the only one who just found out your credit score can drop from a hard inquiry for a store card you didn't even get?
I was trying to get 20% off at a furniture store in Boise and the cashier said it was just a soft pull. My score dropped 12 points a month later when I checked Credit Karma. Has this happened to anyone else with those retail kiosks?

Ugh, those "soft pull" promises are such a lie.

But have you ever considered they might just be really bad at explaining how it works? Sometimes the fine print says they need a hard pull later to actually give you the offer, and people just miss it. It's not always a scam, it's often just confusing on purpose. I've gotten a few cards that way and the soft check part was real, they just didn't make the next step clear. Maybe the problem is more about tricky wording than a flat out lie.

Forget the fine print, they're betting you won't read the terms at all.

Right, it's basically a trick to get you to apply. They know most people won't check their report after to see the hard inquiry. Total scam move, lol.
