Finally cracked 700 after two years of digging out of debt
I was sitting at my desk checking my bank app last Tuesday, and I saw my credit score hit 703 after being stuck at 640 for months. It happened because I paid off a $2,800 medical collection that was dragging me down, and I disputed a couple of old errors on my reports. Has anyone else seen a big jump just from removing one bad item?

You gotta be careful thinking one fix is gonna last. That 703 could drop right back down if the medical collection gets revalidated or if the credit bureaus recheck those disputes. I've seen people get a temporary bump from removing a single item, then it comes back when the data gets updated again or the creditor refiles. It's not always a permanent win, especially if the rest of your credit history is thin or has other negatives. A 640 score for two years means there's likely more going on than just one collection.

Yeah, @simonp76 you're spot on about that temporary bump. I had a buddy last year, he got a 50 point jump after a medical collection fell off his TransUnion. He was hyped, thought he was done. Then three months later, the same collection popped back up under a different name from the original hospital's billing dept and his score dropped 60 points lower than where he started. So yeah, that 703 could easily be a mirage if the foundation under it is still shaky.

64 points is a pretty big swing though, you sure it wasn't something else going on?
