Finally saw my credit score jump 42 points after 8 months of just paying off a $600 medical bill slowly

I was sure those credit repair ads were all scams but turns out simply chipping away at a collections account through a payment plan actually worked, has anyone else had luck with medical debt on their report?

Wait seriously? 38 points from just a $450 bill? @the_thea that's insane. You had that thing sitting there for years and it still boosted your score that much? Maybe I lucked out getting mine paid faster. But like you said the feeling of it being gone is the real win. That weight off your shoulders is better than any number honestly.

Oh man that's awesome for you! I had a similar thing happen when I finally paid off a 450 dollar ER visit from years ago. It took me like a year of sending 50 bucks a month but my score jumped 38 points the month after it showed as paid. So satisfying after feeling like that debt was just hanging over me forever.
