Got denied for a store card at Target because of a tiny mistake
I was checking out at Target last Tuesday and the cashier offered me a 5% discount if I applied for their RedCard. I said sure, filled out the form on their little tablet, and got denied right there in front of everyone. Turns out I forgot my apartment number on my address, so the credit bureau couldn't match me up. Has anyone else gotten rejected for something that dumb?

Hold up though, that apartment number thing sounds like a blessing in disguise. Getting denied for a store card that has a crap APR and borderline useless rewards probably saved you money in the long run.

Target actually uses a weird system that's strict about address matches, so forgetting that apartment number was probably it. Did the denial screen give you an actual reason code or just a generic sorry message? I'm curious if they told you exactly what to fix before you can reapply.

Exact same thing happened to me with a different store. You gotta call the credit bureau and make sure your address matches exactly what you put on the application down to the last letter. Once you fix that, you can reapply in 30 days without it hurting your score again.
