Got told I was using the wrong credit card for gas and it saved me $40 a month

Last month my buddy looked at my statement and said why are you using a cash back card at the pump when there's a specific gas rewards card. I switched to the ABC Gas Plus card and now I get 3% back on every fill up. Between that and the grocery store points I'm stacking, it really adds up. Anyone else find a specific card for a category they didn't think about?

Actually that's not quite right... the ABC Gas Plus card gives you 3% back on gas but it's only at ABC stations. If you fill up at other brands you might only get 1%. I made that mistake at first and was wondering why my rewards suddenly dropped off. Some of the other cards like the Costco one give 4% at any station but you need the membership. Also that grocery stacking thing works better if you're buying gift cards there for gas, but those sometimes get flagged as fraud if you do it too much. Just something to watch out for.

Dang, that's smart. Never even thought to stack grocery points with a gas card like that.

Right @david_jones38, that combo is basically free money if you play it right. Can't beat stacking those perks.
