Got told my credit utilization was choking my score, dropped from 68% to 22% in 3 months

A guy at a credit union in Austin gave me a hard look at my statements and said 'you're paying interest on stuff that's already costing you.' I had like 4 cards all near maxed out for years thinking I was being smart by paying the minimum. He said pay off one card fully, use it for small stuff, and keep the rest under 10%. Did that since December. My score went up 47 points. Has anyone else had that big a jump just from changing how you carry a balance?

Hold up - 47 points in three months just from paying off one card? That's wild man. I had almost the exact same situation except I was sitting at 72% utilization across two cards for like two years thinking as long as I paid on time I was golden. That one card being maxed out was apparently the anchor dragging everything down. When I finally zeroed it out and let the other one sit at 9%, my score jumped 42 points in about 4 months so yeah your story checks out completely.

Whoa yeah my buddy did the same thing and jumped 38 points in two months just by paying off one maxed out store card.
