Hit 760 credit score and still got denied for a $5k card at Capital One in Nashville last Tuesday

I've been grinding on my credit for like 3 years. Paid off collections, kept utilization under 10%, never missed a payment. Thought 760 was the magic number where everything would be easy. Nope. They said my history was 'too thin' even though I've got 4 accounts open for over 2 years. Anyone else hit a solid score and still get slapped down by banks for dumb reasons?

4 accounts in 2 years is still pretty thin for Capital One especially if none of them are major bank cards. They're picky about seeing 5+ years of revolving credit history before they hand out the higher limits.

Are you saying they value the raw time since first card more than the actual mix of accounts? Because ive got a buddy with 15 year old student loan but only 2 credit cards and he got a $15k limit no problem. Makes me wonder if the whole "5 year rule" is more about having any account at all that's that old rather than needing the credit card specifically.

@fiona_west21 "15 year old student loan" helping with credit limits? That's wild. I guess the system cares more about "hey, I've been borrowing money since dinosaurs roamed" than what kind of debt it was.
