Just realized I chose the wrong credit card for my big driveway job

I had to pick between a 0% balance transfer card and a cash back card when I was buying $4,000 in materials for a concrete job in Denver last spring. I went with the cash back card because I thought I'd pay it off quick. Took me 5 months to clear the balance with all the unexpected delays, and I ended up paying $120 in interest. Has anyone here figured out which type of card actually works best for covering big job costs?

0% card always wins for big projects

Right but is that always true? What if the regular card offers better rewards or cash back that beat the 0% deal in the long run?
